Fan-popular UFC important person Prick Diaz won’t be competing in 2024 after all.
Saturday all the device in which thru the UFC Fight Evening 248 broadcast, the promotion confirmed Diaz (26-10 MMA, 7-7 UFC) is out of his Dec. 7 bout at UFC 310 vs. Vicente Luque (22-10-1 MMA, 15-6 UFC) for undisclosed reasons. MMA Mania first reported the swap.
Stepping in for Diaz can be Themba Gorimbo (14-4 MMA, 4-1 UFC). The three-spherical welterweight bout will happen on the cardboard’s prelims at T-Cell Arena in Las Vegas.
The cancellation comes days after a unusual video of Diaz sitting on the bottom and making an attempt to light something on fire went viral on social media. It’s unclear what Diaz became doing exactly, as is the distinctive offer of the video.
Diaz, 41, has no longer competed since a September 2021 loss to Robbie Lawler. That fight is his completely since January 2015. He tried a comeback for an August bout vs. Luque, however withdrew from that one, too, though that became as a result of “mosey disorders,” in accordance with the promotion.
Zimbabwe’s Gorimbo, 33, steps into the supreme-profile MMA fight of his lifestyles in opposition to a broken-down welterweight contender. He enters the bout on a four-fight winning dash that includes victories over Takashi Sato, Pete Rodriguez, Ramiz Brahimaj, and Niko Label.
Luque, 32, targets to leap lend a hand from a TKO loss to Joaquin Buckley in March. The defeat became his third in four fights with the lone victory within the stretch a unanimous decision over Rafael dos Anjos.
